Message from the Wellness Team - 1st Qtr 2009

At a time of global economic turbulence that will likely stay around for a few years, wellness is the best shield against emotional, mental and physical stresses that flow from financial losses, uncertainty about the future or job loss.

Taking responsibility for being well for the sake of self, family, company and the community leads to good health, inner peace, self-confidence, a better image and harmonious relationships. Those in positions of leadership in their communities should light the way by informing, motivating and enabling their followers to be well and stay well.

Lifelong is happy to note that more companies in the Lopez Group are taking responsibility to get their executives and employees on the road to wellness. Wellness is, after all, CSR best practice. More importantly, it is a corporate initiative that aspires to be a legacy of Chairman Oscar M. Lopez whose aim to build a Group to last starts with the intangibles.

There is a recommended template. Forming CEO-led Wellness Circles is the first step. Determining the employees’ health profile comes next, then the crafting of a program appropriate for the health profile. Measuring the impact of wellness on the company’s various bottom lines – financial, social and cultural – is crucial for knowledge management and program improvement.

2009 brings both challenges and opportunities. To know more about what CEOs and their HRs can do to manage the business of wellness, place the cursor on Topics at the left hand side of the Home Page and click on Corporate Wellness. And do explore the entire website to gain a full appreciation.

Be well and stay well!
