FPIC's Wellness Circle
Wellness has become ingrained in FPIC.
Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness after all take their roots in the values of
the company. Hence, FPIC employees created their Values Council.
The story began in 2005 when the results of Watson Wyatt's 4th quarter 2004 Employee Satisfaction
Survey showed a very low score on Teamwork. Subsequent HR programs included a company-wide
"teambuilding through values" workshop in 2006. Employee- initiated revisions in the
vision-mission-values (VMV) were made and a Values Council (VC) was formed.
Figure 1: FPIC's VMV as revised in 2006. It is reviewed
by employees and re-affirmed by shareholders every year.
The VC develops year-round programs to promote the practice of FPIC's values among its 48 employees
and other stakeholders. Its first output is a Values Dictionary to ensure common understanding.
To generate ideas across the organization, all departments, work sites and employee groups are
represented in the VC. Membership tenure is 1 to 2 years.
The VC enjoys senior leadership support. Members of the Mancom serve as advisers of the
three (3) sub-committees. The President's role as champion is primarily as an enabler,
and the sub-committee heads take turns in chairing the bi-monthly meetings.
The three (3) sub-committees- Training, Promotion, Evaluation/ Recognition- work hand-in-hand
in conceptualizing programs and recommending enhancements, if any.
The following are the particular roles of each of the sub-committees:
- Training ensures proper execution of programs
- Promotion "markets" or launches the various programs
- Evaluation & Recognition sets the criteria for all
programs; ensures fair deliberation of program winners and recommends
the necessary rewards and recognition

The VC is now on its second cycle of membership. The VC’s “Wellness
Program for 2009” shows a mix of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
content. Coordination teams for each event are usually appointed by the VC
from other employee volunteers.

The VC concept works well for FPIC. Adopted, or adapted as suited, it may also
work for you.
